Background & Education
Joseph was born and raised in White River Junction, Vermont. He attended Penn State University for his undergraduate education before earning his master’s degree in nursing from Vanderbilt University. He worked as a primary care provider for nearly a decade before returning to school and obtaining his psychiatric training at Johns Hopkins University. He has more than 15 years of clinical experience in settings ranging from community health centers, inpatient hospitals, emergency rooms, and Indian Health Service clinics.
Joseph is married to his beautiful wife, Brenda, who is a combat Veteran who served in the United States Army for 21 years. The couple are the proud parents of two boys.
Joseph’s practice is rooted in his faith in God as he pays careful attention to each person’s spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional well-being. His mother is a member of the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians and his father is from the United Houma Nation of Louisiana. His family currently resides in Central Michigan where Joseph is actively helping to grow the lacrosse community among Native youth.
He recognizes the importance of communicating directly with a provider, so his fluency as a Spanish speaker allows him to uniquely deliver care to Spanish-speaking individuals. He believes his training and years of experience help him serve patients who have lost hope and are seeking alternatives to traditional care.
